John David “Dave” Ubersox, age 75 of rural South Wayne, WI passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington, WI. He was born on October 7, 1945 in Shullsburg, WI the son of John and Bernadine (Mayne) Ubersox. Dave attended Shullsburg Public Schools for 12 years until graduating in 1963.
After graduating from High School, he then enlisted in the United States Navy where he was stationed in Vietnam serving as a medic in the Marines. While serving his country in Vietnam, Dave was wounded by shrapnel while on a rescue mission. When he returned to safety and was being treated for his wounds an invading enemy unit opened fire on Dave and the supporting troops killing men around him and wounding Dave. On March 5, 1966 Dave received two Purple Hearts and a ticket home.
Returning home from serving his country, Dave began farming with his parents and sold insurance for a number of years. He worked for Moore Business Forms in Monroe, WI until his retirement in 2003. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Christine Hirsbrunner on March 8, 1969 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington.
Dave is survived by his wife of 52 years Christine Ubersox at home; mother Bernadine Ubersox of rural Shullsburg; children Heidi Tuescher of rural South Wayne, Angela (Marc) Kohlbauer of Monroe, & son-in-law Steve Dorsey of Ridott, IL; brothers; Ronald (Jeannie) Ubersox, Randall (Connie) Ubersox both of Shullsburg, & William (Jeanne) Ubersox of Grand Junction CO; one sister; Christine (Larry) Leitzinger of Monroe; Six grandchildren; Jevon, Haley, Jace, Gabe Tuescher, Brianna L. & Coral Dorsey; two step-granddaughters; Brianna M. & Caitlin Dorsey and four step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his; father, John B. Ubersox; one daughter Kimberly Dorsey and parents-in-law John and Geraldine Hirsbrunner.
Dave was a lifelong member of the Darlington Immanuel United Church of Christ. He was a proud member and former Commander of the Shullsburg American Legion & Shullsburg V.F.W Post 10533. Dave enjoyed playing ball, bowling, gardening, mowing the lawn and visiting with friends. He could not have asked for a better group of siblings to grow up with and was lucky to call them family. He adored his children and made memories that they will cherish for a lifetime, such as; yearly family vacation to Great America, long bike rides, early morning breakfast and cold winter ice skating but most importantly an abundance of love. Dave made sure to let the apple of his eye know how much he loved her whether it be a cruise through the Caribbean or a carpool home from work. Every moment they spent together was a true treasure.
A funeral service for John David “Dave” Ubersox will be held Saturday April 17, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Darlington (15691 Co Rd K, Darlington, WI 53530). A visitation will be held Friday, April 16, 2021 at the Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg, WI (235 N Judgement St, Shullsburg, WI 53586) from 4:00-8:00PM and from 10:00-10:45 prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will be held at Union Grove Cemetery following the funeral. Military grave side rites will be performed by the Shullsburg VFW Post 10533.

The family requests that all in attendance to the visitation and or funeral are to wear face masks and practice social distancing during your time at the funeral home and church.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Dave’s name.
