Gisela Charlotte Halbheer, 84, passed away at home on June 5, 2022.

She was born on September 23, 1937 to Luitpold and Martha Emilie (Kaufeld) Schuster in Zweibrücken, Germany. She married Ernest Halbheer on April 8, 1961 in Monroe, WI.

Gisela was a devoted wife, mom and oma. She loved to bake, cook and knit for her loved ones. She was a classy lady that had a love of jewelry that started when she was an apprentice jewelry salesperson in Germany.  As the last remaining charter member of the Monroe Swiss Singers, Gisela enjoyed not only the singing but all her friends and the Jass games that followed practice. Together with Ernie, she volunteered countless hours at Turner Hall; planting the flowers and helping in any way. In 2020, she moved to La Crosse to live next door to her daughter, Heidi and family. There she continued to keep herself busy – getting into bread baking, baking desserts for her grandkids, playing Jass with her daughter and neighbors, knitting, gardening, talking on the phone with friends and listening daily to radiotell.ch.

Gisela is survived by her daughter, Heidi (Michael) Barreyro of La Crosse; grandchildren, Drake and Odessa Barreyro; brother, Manfred Schuster of Germany, and cat of 22 years, Zwiebach.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ernest Halbheer; her parents, and her brothers, Karlheinz and Dieter Schuster.

A celebration of Ernie and Gisela’s life will be held at Turner Hall on Sunday, July 17 at noon.

Memorials may be made to the Monroe Swiss Singers or Turner Hall.
