Douglas E. Butler, Sr.

Douglas E. Butler, Sr., age 73, of Monroe passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. He was born the son of Ernest and Delores (Wicker) Butler on November 1, 1946 at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe. He attended South Wayne High School. Doug was united in marriage to Hazel J. Zeitler on November 1, 1993 in Darlington.

Doug worked for several farms in the area as a hired hand. He later worked for Merkle-Korff Industries in Darlington for many years. He enjoyed fishing and was a collector of tools and flashlights. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Doug is survived by his mother, Delores Faletti of Monroe; wife, Hazel Butler of Monroe; children, Tom (Kelly Mullen) Butler of Darlington, Doug (Juanita) Butler, Jr. of Monroe and Tammy (Shane Caruso) Butler of Monroe; 7 grandchildren, T.J. (Jenna) Butler, Lynda (Nick) Bunnell, Brad Butler, Anthony Neuenschwander, Ian Salzwedel, Keon and Lydia Butler; 5 great-grandchildren, Chloe Butler, and Jake, Nick, Hammy, and Wynonna Bunnell; one brother, Greg (Susan) Butler of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Keith (Judith) Butler; nephew, Brad Butler; and the mother of his children, Lynda Butler.

A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00 PM. A memorial fund is being established in Doug’s name. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
