Carol Jean Hafen

 Carol Jean Hafen, age 87 of Monroe, formerly of Juda, died Saturday September 21, 2019 at Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. She was born on August 26, 1932, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret “Ruth” (Meudt) Winn in Wiota. Carol was a 1950 graduate of South Wayne High School; she earned her degree in teaching at Green County Normal Teacher’s College. She later went on to earn her Bachelors of Library Media Specialist from U.W. Platteville in 1987; she also received her Master’s Degree in Library Media Specialist from UW Whitewater in 1991. Carol was united in marriage to Robert G. Hafen on December 22, 1953 in Gratiot; he preceded her in death on March 14, 1989.

Carol was the school Librarian for Juda Public Schools for 23 years, retiring in 2008. She was a member of Green County Educators and St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victors Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading all of her life.

Carol is survived by her three daughters, Lora (Mark) Hafen-Raders of Belleville, Glenda (Andy) Gerber of Monroe, and Lisa (Gregg) Sutherland of Juda; and her sister, Nancy (Roger) Schumacher of Janesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Susan Sarbacker; and brother, Roland Winn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00PM NOON on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor’s Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Bakke celebrant. Burial will take place following mass at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00AM until the time of mass, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in Carol’s name to the Juda School District.
