DARLINGTON - With the help of the public, police have identified two suspects in a shoplifting incident that occurred Saturday morning at Mathys Ace Hardware, 121 Pelco Dr., Darlington.
Video surveillance shows a man and woman entering the store at 11:54 a.m. and then walking down an aisle with a shopping cart. At one point, the man appears to jam something down his pants.
"We don't know how much was stolen yet but we do know the item he put down his pants was a drill" worth $350, Darlington Police Chief Jason King wrote in an email.
Video footage of the incident posted to the Darlington Police Department Facebook page received more than 54,000 views and 700 shares - and eventually helped police identify the suspects. Names of the suspects are being withheld pending further investigation.
The suspects are still at large, King said.
"We are working with authorities outside the state on this so it will take time," he said.
