BRODHEAD - Relay for Life of Green County will be present during Covered Bridge Days in Brodhead on Saturday.
Jim Huffman and Team Deb's Donkeys will host the one-and-a-half hour antique tractor drive at about 4 p.m. Line-up is at the south end of town in the tractor pull area, just east of the car dealer and McDonald's. In the past, the public could ride along in big wagons for the drive also. Donations for the Relay for Life are encouraged from the participants and viewers. During Covered Bridge Days, a Tastefully Simple booth, operated by Relay for Life event chairman Jo Ann Steuri on Saturday, also will benefit the relay.
On Monday, the group will host a Culver's Night at the New Glarus Culver's restaurant from 5 to 8 p.m. Ten percent of all sales will go to the Relay for Life. At 7:30 p.m., the group will meet to decide its 2017 event date and location; anyone can attend.
All relay volunteers, sponsors and supporters can attend the 2017 Relay for Life Global Celebration at Dodger Bowl in Dodgeville from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 19. A major event is being held at the Mall of America in Minneapolis and the Dodgeville event will offer a live broadcast of it along with time to socialize. Cosmic bowling, a cash bar and ordering from the menu are options for the night.
The Relay for Life's fundraiser "Shop for a Cure" will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 26 at the Monroe Middle School. All proceeds benefit the relay.
The Relay for Life of Green County had a successful event on June 18 at Brodhead High School. Currently more than $29,000 has been raised. Fourteen teams, 93 participants, sponsors, survivors and volunteers raised money through donations, sponsorships, silent auction, dessert auction, Miss Relay and a variety of activities. Turner Hall hosted a post-event fundraiser June 26 with the Greg Anderson Band that raised more than $400. The relay also worked with the Brodhead Police Association's Badger Honor Flight Dinner as both events were the same day at Brodhead High School. The relay events leadership and teams continue to raise funds to help find a cure for cancer and provide education, support and programs for cancer survivors and their families.
