MONROE - On Tuesday, the Monroe Common Council:
Approved an agreement with financial service Ehler's & Associates to create a project plan outlining the feasibility of creating a new tax increment district along 30th Street.
Agreed on a resolution approving special events. Main Street Monroe will host two car shows along the Square from 4-9:30 p.m. June 3 and Aug. 26. Supercows, the theme of downtown this summer, will have a kickoff event on the Square from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 4. ARC of Green County plans to host the Monroe Balloon Rally at the Green County fairgrounds June 17-18.
Approved a beverage license to ARC of Green County in conjunction with the Monroe Balloon Festival. Malt beverages will be served throughout the fairground, while the organization will also set up a space for a wine garden.
Voted 6-2 to approve the possession of live chickens for two separate applications; one from a resident located at the corner of 17th Avenue and 17th Street, and the other located along the 1400 block of 30th Avenue.
Voted 7-1 in favor of hiring a contractor to perform maintenance on city fire hydrants in the downtown area. The company will sandblast decades of paint from some hydrants and repaint them.
Proclaimed May 20 as Poppy Day because "a nation at peace must be reminded of the price of war," Mayor Louis Armstrong said.
