MONROE - At a meeting Tuesday, the City of Monroe Common Council:
Approved the appointment of Emily Bartels to the Park and Recreation board.
Set a special council meeting for 5:30 p.m. Monday to consider Pancho & Lefty's Tex-Mex Green LLC's "Class B" fermented malt beverage and liquor license annual renewal. The special meeting is needed because Poncho & Lefty's applied for renewal after the June 1 liquor license deadline. State statue requires a 15-day grace period to allow city councils to review applications. The restaurant's license is due to expire at the end of the month.
Approved repealing and recreating the city ordinance on fair housing and signs, giving the city authority to act on violations that may endanger lives on public property, including sidewalks and parks. The ordinance will allow the city to trim trees on private property that overhang onto city parks. It also gives the city forester more authority to act if property related to plants is in violation of the city code.
Approved an easement to allow the Green County EMS to lay a new gas lateral to the Green County EMS building. The project start date is undetermined.
Approved a resolution to accept a $223,172 firefighter grant from FEMA. The grant will be used by the city's fire department for new self-contained breathing apparatus units for firefighters.
Approved resolutions for special events including Pony Express program and for the Monroe Park and Recreation Department annual Independence Day Festival at Twining Park.
Approved a resolution to grant a temporary Class B fermented malt beverage license for Knight of Columbus in conjunction with Kutter Harley Davidson's 30th Anniversary Party on June 27 and with Green County Human Services Child, Youth & Family Services Awareness Fundraiser on June 25.
Voted to accept bids and award a contract for the police department and chamber hall roofing project. The project will cost about $64,000 with an additional $3,800 to replace deteriorated wood and an additional $17,400 to replace the existing insulation as needed. The project will begin as soon as the contract is signed. The project is expected to be completed within 70 days of when the contract is signed.
