MONROE - The Monroe Public Library's stretch of summer programs will end with a family concert by Yurtfolk at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28 at the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave., Monroe.
Yurtfolk, the musical duo of LuAnne Harley and Brian Kruschwitz, will present an interactive exploration of folk stories, songs and dance from around the globe.
Yurtfolk strives to create community through music by helping the audience to experience other cultures with their songs and stories, officials said in a release.
The show even opens the program by teaching a traditional Nigerian song of welcome along with the traditional handshake. Kruschwitz plays multiple international instruments throughout the show and participants are encouraged to sing along even if they don't know the language.
Harley and Kruschwitz are raising their family in a yurt, a traditional Mongolian house, and will explain what it is like to live in a yurt, which they will demonstrate with a doll-sized model of a yurt during the program.
The concert is free and no registration is necessary. Monroe Public Library programs are open to patrons of all abilities. The Monroe Public Library is handicapped accessible, and parking is available behind the building or in the municipal parking ramp across the street.
