MONROE — Former Green County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Deputy Ike died recently after a battle of health problems. On Friday, March 24, deputies from the area gave him a procession along Wis. 11/81, ending at the Brodhead Veterinary Medical Center.

“Today we said goodbye to a beloved member of our office,” the Green County Sheriff’s Department shared in a Facebook post. “K9 Ike will always be remembered as a loyal partner, fearless protector, and faithful friend. Good boy Ike. We will miss you.”

Ike, a purebred German Shepard, joined the force on Sept. 15, 2012 and worked with Deputy Cody Kanable before retiring in early 2020. He was a dual purpose police dog, trained in narcotic detection and patrol work.

He was about 12 years old when he died.
