BLANCHARDVILLE - The 2016 Green County Breakfast on the Farm will be from 6 to 10 a.m. May 28 at Jeglum's Twayne Valley Farm, N8879 Sunnyside Road, north of Blanchardville, off Wisconsin 78.
Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $6 for adults and $4 for children 6 to 10 years old; children 5 years old and younger are free.
This is the 37th year for this annual event, which features a delicious farm breakfast, live musical entertainment and educational displays, including a special sawmill demonstration area.
The Green County Agricultural Chest organizes the celebration with support from area businesses and individuals, including Platinum Sponsors, Colony Brands of Monroe and Badgerland Financial.
Twayne Valley Farm is owned and operated by Wayne and Tammy Jeglum. The couple married in 1982 and began their farming journey together when they moved back to the Jeglum home farm in the spring of 1986. They purchased the farm from Wayne's parents, Herman and Marlene, one year later.
The Jeglums milk 40 cows twice a day in a stanchion barn and raise their own replacement heifers. The home farm includes 323 acres, but with additional rented land, they crop 525 acres of corn, alfalfa, wheat, oats and soybeans to feed the animals. They have a small beef herd and sell any remaining crops. Tammy Jeglum also works at the Mount Horeb School Intermediate Center as a paraprofessional.
Over the years, the Jeglums have made many improvements to the farm, including adding buildings and sheds to house their animals and making the farming operation more labor efficient.
The Jeglums have two grown daughters: Diane (Brian) Schlafli and Stephanie (Travis) Holmes. They also have seven grandchildren: Karter, Griffin, Chelsea and Sawyer Schlafli; and Riley, Claire and Hunter Holmes.
