MONROE — A county employee was injured in a two-car crash while doing work on a rural road Tuesday morning.

According to a statement from the Green County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred just before 11:25 a.m. — while highway crews were patching the edge of the road in the W800 block of County Hwy E.

That’s when their red 2011 Ford F350 road maintenance truck was sideswiped by a westbound Honda Pilot, driven by 80-year old James B. Graves of Albany.

“The road maintenance worker sustained injuries in the collision and was transported for medical treatment by private vehicle,” the statement said. “James reported wearing his seatbelt and was not injured in the collision.”

Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud on Thursday identified that worker as Jeffery Hanson, 57, of Dakota, Ill. Skatrud said he was relieved to find out the man’s injuries were not major in nature.

“(His injuries) appear to be not serious enough an injury for an ambulance,” he said.

Graves’ white Honda sustained functional damage to the “entire right side,” according to officials, but there was no airbag deployment. James even drove away in the battered SUV, but not before being cited for failure to move over/slow down and was released with a mandatory court appearance, officials said.

Meanwhile, the Green County Highway Dept. F350 sustained functional damage to its left side; and there was no airbag deployment in the truck. The F350 was driven from the scene.
