MONROE - After a relatively warm December, frigid temperatures are back with subzero lows predicted through Wednesday.
The National Weather Service issued a wind chill advisory Sunday night to continue through noon Monday. A combination of blustery winds and very cold temperatures are expected to cause wind chills of between 20 and 25 degrees below zero into Monday morning, as of Sunday night.
A winter storm watch is also in effect for Green and Lafayette counties, including Monroe and Darlington, starting at 6 p.m. Monday and continuing until 6 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service expects 2 to 5 inches of snowfall over most of southern Wisconsin, with the potential for about 6 inches in areas to the west and south of Madison.
Weather Central predicts a high of 8 degrees for Monday and a low of minus 1. The low for Tuesday dips to minus 12 degrees with a possible high of 9 degrees.
Wednesday is predicted to be the coldest day this week, with both high and low temperatures below zero - minus 4 and minus 13, respectively.
Thursday may warm up slightly, to a high of 11 degrees and a low of zero, according to Weather Central. Forecasts call for a high of 7 degrees and a low of minus 3 on Friday.
