MONROE - A Freeport man who pleaded guilty to a charge of third-degree sexual assault failed to appear Wednesday at his sentencing hearing in Green County Circuit Court.

Equez Collins, 22, was required to appear at 9 a.m. to be present when his sentence was passed. Collins' attorney, Robert Nagel, and members of Collins' family were present, but not Collins himself.

In light of Collins' absence, Green County Judge James Beer issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Collins pleaded guilty Feb. 18. The charge stemmed from an incident on March 1, 2014 when he offered a woman a ride home from a Monroe bar and forced sexual contact with her in the backseat of his car.

Nagel said Collins had not read the results of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections' pre-sentencing investigation, which would reveal the state's recommendation for his sentencing.

A hearing will be held on May 16 to determine whether Collins' failure to appear should forfeit his $2,500 bond.
