DARLINGTON - An Evansville man accused of sexual assault and a related charge against two young girls appeared in court Monday to sign a $5,000 signature bond.

Timothy James Edwards made his initial appearance in Lafayette County Circuit Court on Monday, his 31st birthday. The bond stipulates he not have any direct or indirect contact with the children.

Edwards was accused of having forced sexual contact with two children and touching them inappropriately multiple times between December 2014 and April 2015.

Circuit Court Judge Duane Jorgenson recused himself from the case, citing a conflict of interest stemming from his previous work as a prosecutor in children's court and his efforts to combat child maltreatment.

A Green County circuit judge will replace Jorgenson for the remainder of the case. It has not yet been determined which judge will replace Jorgenson.
