MONROE - The Monroe School District will reveal the finalist for the principal's position at Abraham Lincoln Accelerated Learning Academy, pending approval at Monday's Board of Education meeting.
Twenty-six people applied to replace current principal Tina Van Meer, according to Director of Curriculum and Instruction Cory Hirsbrunner.
Van Meer signed a two-year contract to start July 1 as superintendent and elementary principal in the Gibraltar School District in northern Door County, according to a May 26 article in the Door County Advocate.
An advisory committee, including board president Bob Erb, interviewed seven candidates June 12 from the pool of 26 to replace Van Meer.
One was an internal candidate, Hirsbrunner said.
The recommendation of a finalist comes from those involved in interviewing the seven candidates on June 12: an advisory committee of Abraham Lincoln teachers, support staff and principals at the district's other two elementary school as well as an overseeing administrative committee.
A hiring process is also under way to replace Hirsbrunner when she becomes superintendent of the district, effective July 1. She will replace Larry Brown, who is leaving to become superintendent in Rice Lake.
Hirsbrunner said there are 13 applicants to fill the director of curriculum and instruction position, three of whom will be interviewed Monday, July 9, by a committee of teachers, support staff, administrators and representatives from the school board, parents and community.
One of the interviewees is an internal candidate, according to Hirsbrunner. A selection of a finalist or finalists will be determined after the interviews and "an extensive reference check is complete."
"We are working to fill the positions as soon as possible," she said.
