DARLINGTON - A Darlington man was charged Monday with sexually assaulting an underage girl earlier this month.

David Ross Blench, 22, was charged with a Class C felony count of second-degree sexual assault of a child and a Class I felony count of exposing his genitals to a child.

The charges stem from an incident on April 11, when Blench allegedly fondled the girl's breasts and attempted to convince her to perform sex acts.

The girl reported that Blench had performed similar actions with her repeatedly over two years. However, this was the first time he had been discovered doing so.

According to the police report, Blench sustained brain trauma after a car accident in 2010, and therefore requires a certain amount of supervision in managing his day-to-day life. However, he lives independently and "knows right and wrong," his mother said in the report.

Blench later reportedly told the victim he understood that what he did was wrong and added that he would move into a group home to help prevent him from repeating his behavior in the future.

Blench signed a $2,500 signature bond on Monday. The conditions of the bond dictate he have no future direct or indirect contact with the victim.

Blench will appear in court for an initial appearance on May 2.
