Veryl F. Adamson age 101 of Monroe, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe. Veryl was born on May 20, 1912 in Carlock, South Dakota, to George and Clara (Hanson) Stanford who were homesteaders in the Dakota Territory. Veryl graduated from Butte, Nebraska High School in 1929 and attended Wayne State Teachers College. She married Gus P. Adamson on Nov. 30, 1933 in Burwell, NE. The couple farmed West of Monticello for 25 years. Veryl moved to Monroe following her husband's death in 1985. She worked as a bookkeeper for Karlen Lumber in Monticello for 12 years. She was a 12-year member and past president of the Green County Farm Bureau, active in Christian Women's Club, and a member of the Assembly of God Church for 60 years.
She is survived by three children, Verlyn (Judy) Adamson of Mt. Horeb, Peter (Darlene) Adamson of Dallas, TX, Myrna (Jim Brown) Carlson of St. Augustine, FL; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Rieder of Omaha, NE; and eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Donald in 1972; grandson, Douglas in 1964; and a brother, George Stanford.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 1329 31st. Ave., Monroe, with Pastor Steve Owen of the Liberty Baptist Church, Monroe, officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established.
