MONROE - A Monroe man was arrested this week on charges that he chased a Freeport man with a 35-inch stainless steel sword.
Donald Gene Bornemeier, 32, posted a $500 cash bond and signed a $1,000 signature bond in Green County Circuit Court Friday, June 22, on the related misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon.
Police say the 28-year-old alleged victim called dispatch shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, to report that he had showed up to visit Bornemeier's residence in the 2200 block of 8th Street but was chased off by a sword-wielding Bornemeier.
Bornemeier allegedly used a racial slur during the incident and, as a result, he faces extra penalties in court for committing a hate crime.
There were no injuries reported. Police say intoxication was a factor in the incident.
