Royce ZumBrunnen, age 86, of DeForest, WI, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Royce was born on October 17, 1922, in Beloit, WI, the son of Ernest G. and Hilda (Miller) ZumBrunnen. Royce was an Eagle Scout and served in WWII as a Naval Officer. He served in the South Pacific, Suez Canal, North Atlantic, and after the war taught at King's Point Academy.
Royce was married to Norma J. Krueger who preceded him in death on July 10, 1951.
Royce was a professional portrait photographer and owned a studio in Monroe, WI. On August 23, 1952, Royce married Mary L. Hanna. Mary adopted Jill and Jock, children born to Norma and Royce. Mary and Royce had an additional four children.
Royce worked for Wisconsin Power and Light for 30 years. Royce enjoyed muskie fishing, wood working, sculpting, painting, sailing, golfing, deer hunting, and his travels to New York and Europe. Royce was a true family man and took great pride and enjoyment in spending time with his children and grandchildren. Royce organized the ZumBrunnen family reunions that were held at the New Glarus, WI park from 1965 into the late 1990's.
Royce served as the Village President of DeForest, WI for 18 years and also served three terms on the Dane County Board of Supervisors.
Royce was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Kim (Vinet) of North Freedom, WI. Royce is survived by his brother, Ernie (Grace) ZumBrunnen of Portland, OR; his sister, Susan Mace of Minnesota; his wife, Mary L. (Hanna); his children, Jill (Lee) Schwebs of Menominee, WI, Jock (Mary) of Eureka, CA, Mark (Audrey) of Wilton, WI, Amy (Scott) Emch of New Auburn, WI and Matthew (Tammy) of DeForest, WI.
