Mildred Adeline Sonnenburg Kuckuck

Mrs. Mildred Adeline Kuckuck, age 97, of San Antonio, TX, (previously Fond du Lac, WI) passed away on Sunday, July 31st, 2011 peacefully at home. Mildred was born April 14, 1914 in Tomah, WI. The daughter of William and Bertha (Neuendorf) Sonnenburg, she graduated from Tomah High School. On September 21st, 1932 she was united in marriage to Frederick Robert Kuckuck in Wilton, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death in 1991.The couple lived in Monroe, WI for many years before moving to Fond du Lac in 1959.

Mildred had worked at the Swiss Colony factory in Monroe, and later at Miles Kimball in Oshkosh, WI, before she and her husband founded the Kuckuck Appliance Service in Fond du Lac.Before moving to San Antonio, Mildred was an active member of Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac, where she was a member of the Ruth Circle. She loved traveling on vacations all over North America with her family and, in later life, abroad to Europe and Asia to visit her children when they lived overseas. She was known for her lively sense of humor and always enjoyed laughing with family and friends.

Survivors include daughters Barbara (Ron) Talbot of San Antonio, TX and Elizabeth Barker of Tucson, AZ; sons Jerry (Julie) Lamb of Houston, TX, Robert (Terri) Kuckuck of Fredericksburg, VA, William (Joni) Kuckuck of Washington, DC; son-in-law David MacKenna of Weatherford, TX; 13 grandchildren: Scott, Shana, Brent, Briget, Rebecca, Brian, Spencer, Kevin, Jeff, Karen, Daniel, Elena and David; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fritz, infant son, daughter Beverly, daughter-in-law Betty (Flottman) Kuckuck and brothers Raymond, Kenneth and Ervin. The family would like to express deep gratitude to her dear caretakers Mona Arizola, and Mary Ann Zavala and Hospice nurse Eileen Petter, Chaplain Todd Guidry, Social Worker Mary Almeida and the staff of the VistaCare Hospice for their dedicated assistance and compassion during Mildred's final years.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., August 10, 2011 at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, 12525 Potranco Road, San Antonio, TX 78253, with the Rev. Dr. Ed Kern officiating. A memorial fund has been established in her memory at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church or Women of the ELCA. Puente & Sons Funeral Home is serving the family.
