NEW GLARUS - Lorna M. Eichelkraut Marty, age 89, of New Glarus, WI passed away on Monday, March 3, 2008, at University Hospital, Madison, WI. Lorna was born on October 17, 1918, in New Glarus, WI. She was the daughter of Jacob and Bertha M. (Zimmerman) Marty. Lorna was the salutatorian of the 1936 class of New Glarus High School. On August 4, 1936, she was united in marriage to Elroy Eichelkraut and he preceded her in death in 1966. On August 22, 1969, she married William Marty in New Glarus; he passed away in 1992. Lorna worked for the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction retiring in 1982. She was an active member of the Swiss United Church of Christ and its Ladies Aid. Lorna volunteered for many years at the New Glarus Home and the New Glarus Public Schools assisting with reading and math.

She is survived by three daughters: Lorene Webber of Madison, WI, Maribeth (Frank) Stanley of Madison, WI, and Shirley (David) Howell of Kalispell, MT; 11 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and 7 great-great-step-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Eichelkraut of Belleville, WI; two stepsons: Wilton Marty of New Glarus and Arthur (Patty) Marty of New Glarus; a brother, Morris Marty of Verona, WI; a sister, Harriet Marty of New Glarus, WI; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Elroy Eichelkraut in 1966 and William Marty in 1992; and two sons, Barry Eichelkraut and Bradford "Butch" Eichelkraut.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the Swiss United Church of Christ, New Glarus, WI. Pastor Patty Marty and Rev. Tom Neilsen officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery, New Glarus.
