LANARK, IL - Loren N. Martz, 80, of Lanark, died Wednesday March 19, 2008 at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

He was born November 11, 1927 in Brookville, IL, the son of Nathaniel and Edna (Wehmeyer) Martz. He was a graduate of Lanark High School. He married Betty Rackow on Sept. 11, 1979 in Lena.

He was a lifelong Lanark area farmer. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark. He was a trustee for Rock Creek-Lima Township, served eleven years on the ASCS County Committee, a member of the Lanark Lions Club for 60 years, a member of the Masonic Lodge for 58 years, and was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of the Valley of Freeport. He enjoyed showing cattle with his family, bowling, pool, card playing, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Lanark; three children, Gregg (Jane) Martz of Lanark, Lori Macomber of Freeport, Mary (Mark) Kolb of Madison, MS; three step-children, Tena Rackow of Monroe, WI, Brad (Pam) Rackow of Lena, Kirk (Marcie) Rackow of Albuquerque, NM; eight grandchildren, Zach (Dallas) Rackow, Allan (Andrea) Kolb, Heidi Rackow, Danielle Macomber, Kyle Martz, Andrew Kolb, Gretchen Rackow, Kayla Martz; one great-granddaughter, Hanna Rackow; one sister, Lois Barnes of Shannon; one brother, Harlan (Barbara) Martz of Lanark; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark with Pastor Philip Mathai officiating. Interment will be in Rock Lily Cemetery in Winslow. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in his memory for the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Blind Program of the Lions Club, and the Kidney Foundation.
