Kenneth Leitzinger, age 82 of Shullsburg, WI, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer for two years. He was born October, 8, 1926 in Shullsburg, the son of Arnold and Adelaide (Alderson) Leitzinger. Kenneth graduated from Shullsburg High School. He was united in marriage to Lois Bradt on September 28, 1946 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Shullsburg. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 28, 2006. Kenneth lived in the Shullsburg area all his life. Following his retirement from dairy farming he became a Moorman's Feed salesman for twenty-three years. Following his retirement from Moorman's Feed he became a messenger for Swiss Colony in Monroe for thirteen years.
Kenneth is survived by his wife: Lois; five children: Larry (Chris) Leitzinger of Monroe, WI, Linda Bourquin of Monroe, WI, Edward Leitzinger of Palm Harbor, FL, Jim (Jackie) Leitzinger of Shullsburg, WI, and Sheila (Dale) Meyer of Mineral Point, WI; one brother: Francis (Eileen) Leitzinger of Shullsburg, WI; two sisters-in-law: Linda Leitzinger, Shullsburg, WI, Barbara Leitzinger of Monroe, WI; sixteen grandchildren: Dean (Dawn), Brian (Julie), and Jason Leitzinger, Brad (Lisa), Dan (Jamie), and Matt Bourquin, Nick Scheppele, Jocelyn, Sean, Ryan (Lindsay) Leitzinger, Eliza (Nelson) Ennis, Emma, Ben, Anna Leitzinger, Lance (Heather) Meyer, Arielle (K.C.) Golfinopoulos; and twelve great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Joseph and Wayne Leitzinger.
Kenneth was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Shullsburg. He was a member of the Amicitia Masonic Lodge #25 of Shullsburg for fifty years. He was secretary for eight years and also served as a Past Master. Kenneth was also a member of the Shullsburg Fire District Board for forty-two years of which he was secretary for nineteen years. He enjoyed watching the Packers and Badgers with his family. Kenneth liked to dance and enjoyed music from the 40's and 50's. He was a trumpet player for Musical Knights Band in the 1940's. Kenneth also played Taps for many funerals. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 14, 2008 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Shullsburg with Rev. Brenda Whitford officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Shullsburg. A visitation will be held Thursday, November 13, 2008 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at O'Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home in Shullsburg where Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
