Jorge Victor Jaramillo passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008 after a brief illness with his family at his side. Jorge or "Coco" as he was affectionately known was born in Lima, Peru, May 14, 1923. The second born of four children, he came to the U.S. at the age of 18 to attend engineering school and ultimately graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from South Dakota State University in Brookings in South Dakota. While studying in South Dakota, he met Lois Graber and they married, eventually having two children, Eduardo and Ricardo. They lived and worked in various places including Miami and Saltillo, Mexico finally settling back in Lima, Peru where their children were raised. Coco worked for the International Harvester Corp. where he developed and patented a plowing system which is still in use today. While working at IHC, he opened a maquiladora in Saltillo, Mexico, where he lived for a couple of years. He eventually returned to Lima and ran a very successful business in Industrial Insurance Property Loss Control. His optimism and hard work provided him with many successes and allowed him to finally retire in the 1980's and move back to the U.S. to be close to his beloved son and best friend Rick. He was also actively involved in the lives of his three granddaughters who he was extremely fond of and played a part in forming them into the beautiful young women they now are. He will be sorely missed by them.
Coco was a well educated, well traveled and a well rounded person who spoke four languages and was comfortable in any social situation. He was always loving, upbeat, optimistic, friendly, gregarious and his good humor will be missed by his extensive family and friends.
Coco is survived by his wife, Judith, of Oceanside, ex-wife Lois of Carlsbad, son Ed and daughter-in-law Helga of Germany, his son, Rick and daughter-in-law, Mary of Encinitas; his three precious granddaughters, Alexandra, Brianna and Marina; his brothers, Dr. Carlos Jaramillo (wife and children) from Monroe, Wisconsin, Mr. Pepe Jaramillo (wife and children) from Lima, Peru; his sister, Mrs. Maria Teresa Meconi (husband and children) of Menlo Park; and multiple extended family members in the U.S. and Peru.
We as the family have nothing but positive and loving memories of Coco as a father, best friend, grandfather ("Belito"), husband, brother, uncle and cousin. All of this and much more including his love, infectious good humor and optimism will forever be in our hearts.
Final services were held at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Viewing and rosary service was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 1. Mass and memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 2. Eternal Hills Memorial Park is located at 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 92054.
