Gary L. Kappe, age 64 of Monroe, died on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at his home. He was born on April 7, 1947 in Clearland, Ohio the son of Gordon and Jeanne (Cogswell) Kappe. Gary was a graduate of Lake Zurich High School in 1965 and attended Lake County College majoring in Business. He served in the U.S. Army, from June 20, 1967 until June 19, 1969. Gary and Diane Havlik were married on January 1998 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After returning from serving in the military Gary worked for 10 years for Sara Lee in Deerfield, Illinois. In 1980 he moved to Monroe to work as Executive Director of Food Operations for Swiss Colony retiring January 2010. He was a member of Monroe Moose Lodge #754, Monroe Country Club, Leisure Lanes Monday Night Bowling League and Sr. Men's Softball League.

Surviving is his wife: Diane Kappe of Monroe; Mother, Jeanne Kappe of Lake Zurich, IL, father-in-law; Leo Havlik of Bagley, WI, step-son, James Markham of Platteville, WI; step-daughter Amanda of Janesville; brother, Gordon (Linda) Kappe Jr. of Barrington, IL.; sister, Diane (Ken) Field of Barrington Hills, IL; brother-in-law, David Havlik; sister-in-law, Debra (Steve) Pickett; many nephews, nieces and friends. He is predeceased by his father Gordon Kappe, Sr. and mother-in-law Loreta Havlik.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave. with Fr. Michael E. Klarer officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday, from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe, with a Moose Lodge Service at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
