Felonies

• Derek James Morgan, 25, Monroe, pleaded no contest Jan. 12 to misdemeanor charges of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia and was sentenced to one year on probation. He owes the court $352. A felony charge of possessing cocaine was dismissed. The charges stem from an arrest April 15 in Twining Park in Monroe. Court records indicate he drove into the park afterhours and a police officer in the area warned him to leave, then noticed Morgan was visibly intoxicated. A search of Morgan's vehicle turned up .9 grams of marijuana and .5 grams of cocaine.

• Nicholas Tyler Dasko, 18, Brodhead, was charged Dec. 22 with felony bail jumping, stemming from a traffic stop for speeding the same day at West 5th Street and 16th Street in Brodhead. Court records indicate there was a female passenger in the car with whom he was ordered not to have contact, in violation of his bond on a previous case. He stood mute and has a pre-trial conference Jan. 16.

• Cody Walker Johnson, 26, Monroe, was charged Jan. 2 with a Class I felony count of possessing narcotic drugs and a misdemeanor count of possessing drug paraphernalia. Court records indicate that on Dec. 29, EMS and police were dispatched to his home in the 800 block of 28th Avenue after a family member reported that Johnson had collapsed and had labored breathing. Police found heroin, a syringe, a silver metal spoon with burn residue and other drug paraphernalia nearby. This was not his first overdose, and earlier that afternoon, he had gone to a counselor seeking drug treatment, according to police reports. Johnson signed a $5,000 signature bond and has a preliminary hearing March 6.
