FREEPORT — Freeport police are continuing to search for a murder suspect a week after a shooting in the Illinois city on Nov. 26 that left another local man, Tevin Walker, 30, dead.

According to police, investigators say the shooting happened just before 10 a.m. in the 600 block of South Carroll Avenue on the city’s near east side. Afterward, Walker reportedly brought himself to Freeport’s FHN hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his gunshot wounds.

Then, not long after the shooting, Freeport police identified 38-year-old Christopher Calvin of Freeport as a suspect, adding that the crime was not considered random in nature.

According to police contacted on Thursday, the search continues for Calvin, who has an extensive criminal record in Stephenson County. Among other charges, he was convicted of obstructing justice/destroying evidence in 2007. An aggravated DUI charge was dismissed against him last March, according to court records.

The victim, court records show, was convicted of felony fleeing and eluding police in 2016 and felony cocaine charges that same year. There also was a conviction for unlawful possession of a credit card in 2013, records show.

The public is urged to contact Freeport Police or Stateline Area Crime Stoppers with any information on Calvin’s whereabouts.
