DARLINGTON — Darlington police continue to investigate following a report of a domestic disturbance involving a knife on Wells Street. Prior to police arrival there at about 11:05 a.m. Friday, the alleged offender fled on foot.
As a result, a search for the offender was conducted by the Darlington Police Department and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office. A nearby school — Holy Rosary Grade School — was placed on soft lockdown and police were present on school grounds.
The Darlington Police Department was able to make phone contact with the suspect in the matter and turned himself at about 2:25 PM. That man is Taurino Trujillo-Vega, 30, of Darlington. He was arrested for violating probation and transported to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office where he remains, said Jason King, the Darlington Police Chief.
However, he wasn’t immediately charged with any felonies, or act of violence related to the knife incident. No one was injured, and the matter remains under investigation.
It was the second knife related incident in Darlington in recent months. In late March, local police arrested Higinio Tlaxcaltecatl, 33, of Darlington. He was jailed on tentative charges of attempted first degree intentional homicide in connection with an alleged stabbing incident, involving a victim he knew but did not live with.
Tlaxcaltecatl is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on the three felonies at 11:15 a.m., July 7 before circuit judge Duane M. Jorgenson, according to court records.
