MONROE - A Brodhead man charged with child abuse appeared in court Monday and was released on bond.

Tyson Vernon Foster, 29, was charged in June with child abuse, a Class I, after he reportedly kicked a child in the face in May.

Foster appeared in Green County Circuit Court with his attorney Philip J. Brehm. Brehm waived the reading of Foster's charges before Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Kohl proposed Foster's bond conditions.

Foster accepted and signed a $2,000 signature bond with conditions that he have no violent or abusive contact with the victim. Kohl said the victim's case is currently being handled by child protective services.

The victim claimed Foster kicked him in the face after an altercation on May 24. Foster denied having done so but said he did slap the child across the face.

The victim received visible bruising to the face but was otherwise unharmed.

If found guilty, Foster faces a maximum possible sentence of 18 months in prison or a maximum fine of $10,000.

Foster will next appear in court for a pre-trial conference Sept. 6.
