BRODHEAD - The annual Fire and Ice Festival will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The Christmas Memorial Tree at City Hall is an opportunity for people to remember their loved ones. The person's photo and name will be displayed on the tree. Completed forms and photos must be delivered to the Brodhead Free Press, 925 W. Exchange St., by Thursday. Call 931-9484 with questions.

A special North Pole mailbox will be available through Dec. 22. Children may address their letters to Santa and put them in the mailbox for delivery to the North Pole.

The Brodhead Historical Society has Christmas-themed decorated windows at the Consigny Law Firm S.C., 1030 1st Center Ave. A 35-piece nutcracker collection in the Brodhead Chamber of Commerce window to the right of John's Barber Shop on the square was set up by Nancy Sutherland and John Meitry.

Freshly popped kettle corn will be for sale at the corner of 1st Center Avenue and East Exchange Street in front of the Bank of Brodhead clock from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.



Here is a rundown of other planned activities:



FRIDAY

Downtown: Zoli Akacsos of Monroe will be sculpting blocks of ice into pieces of winter land art from 3 to 8 p.m. and luminaries will grace the downtown and square area. Fire pits will be burning for roasting hot dogs, marshmallows and s'mores. Hot chocolate and chili will be for sale in front of Fibs North. A hot toddy bar, in partnership between the Brodhead Chamber and Bridge's Bar, will be open for attendees 21 years of age and older.

Activities for children ages 3 to 12 will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at City Hall and will include cookie decorating sponsored by the Brodhead Optimist Club, face painting, tattoos and activity pages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Free horse-drawn carriage and wagon rides will be available from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and until 8:30 p.m. after the parade. The rides are sponsored by the Business Improvement District Board.

Kubly's Automotive LLC will be announcing the recipient of the Wheels to Prosper Car Give-A-Way at 6 p.m.

The Fire and Ice Festival Committee will be selling 50/50 raffle tickets to benefit Brodhead's White Gift. The tickets will be for sale from 4 to 7 p.m. at the food wagon on the north side of the square. Volunteers will roam around the Lighted Parade crowd from 6 to 7 p.m. selling tickets. The winner will be announced after the parade.

Lighted parade: The lighted parade will begin at 7 p.m. with at least 30 entries featuring Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who contest participants, pets dressed in Christmas costumes and other entries. The parade route will begin at the corner of 10th Street and East 3rd Avenue, turn left on 1st Center Avenue, travel south on 1st Center Avenue, then turn left at 12th Street, ending at the Veterans Park area. The parade entries will be announced live. The parade will take place regardless of weather conditions. Text John Winters at 608-558-4821 by Thursday to get parade entries in.

Decorated Pet Contest: Animal owners can dress their pets in Christmas decor and enter them in the Decorated Pet Contest. The pets will be judged in front of City Hall at 6:30 p.m. Brodhead Chamber will award prizes. The pets and owners are to line up at 10th Street and East 3rd Avenue after judging for the parade. All pets must be leashed with a proper fitting collar and kept away from other pets and children.

Cindy Lou Who Contest: Children may dress up to look like the Cindy Lou Who character from the Dr. Seuss Christmas classic movie "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." The contestants will be judged at 6:15 p.m. in the Bank of Brodhead lobby. Pre-registration is not necessary. Winners will be awarded prizes. Contestants and the Grinch are to line up at 6:30 p.m. at the corner of 10th Street and East 2nd Avenue to be in the lighted parade. Call Dianne Rundle at 214-6851 with questions.

Arts and Crafts Fair: Christmas gifts will be available for purchase at the Arts and Crafts Fair from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Bank of Brodhead's courtesy room.

Frozen T-shirt Contest: The fourth annual Frozen T-shirt Contest will be held at 8 p.m. on the square. Contestants will remove a frozen T-shirt from a zip-locked bag and race to see who the first is to thaw it and to put it on. Contestants must be ages 16 and over to compete for prizes. Forms and rules can be downloaded from Facebook.

Photos with Santa: Children can have their photos taken with Santa from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the previous Java House business. The photos will be taken by Bri Larsen of Larsen's Photography, Brodhead. The event is sponsored by the Sugar River Bank-Brodhead Branch. Contact Barb Clark at 897-8607 with questions.



SATURDAY

Breakfast with Santa: Children will have a chance to visit and have breakfast with Santa from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Brodhead Public Library. The Brodhead Jaycees sponsor this event. Call 608-931-9484 with questions.
