MONROE — Police are investigating a burglary of the Monroe Dairy Queen that occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 31.
An employee at the fast food restaurant, 405 8th St., discovered evidence of the burglary when showing up for work at about 9 a.m., said Monroe Chief of Police Fred Kelley.
The suspect forcibly entered the business between 1:30 and 2:10 a.m., broke into a safe and took an undetermined amount of cash, according to Kelley.
Surveillance video shows that the suspect appears to be a white male, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and baseball-type cap. The person is carrying a shoulder bag with the strap across the chest.
Police do not have information on an associated vehicle.
"You can park not too far from there and not be seen," Kelley said. "We don't think they parked in that parking lot. The person could have gone a significant distance without being seen."
Kelley is asking anyone with information on the burglary and theft to contact the police department at 608-329-2400.
