August is black cat month

MONROE - August is Adopt a Black Cat Month at the Green County Humane Society.

Black cats are often overlooked for adoption due to several factors including:

- They do not photograph as well as lighter animals. Photographs often cannot capture the personality or facial expressions of black cats.

- Black cats are considered unlucky.

- Black is the most prevalent color in cats. Often, people assign less value to a black cat because they are more commonly seen.

- Many of the scariest animals portrayed in movies and television shows are black. People often think black cats look more dangerous.

During the month of August, all fully or partially (tuxedo) black-coated cats can be adopted for a reduced fee. An adoption application is required.
