BELOIT — Clinton Anderson officially submitted the required number of signatures to appear on the 45th State Assembly District ballot. He is the first candidate for the seat to accomplish the milestone. Anderson is currently serving his third term on the Beloit City Council.
“I am excited to have earned a spot on the ballot,” Anderson said. “Thank you to the numerous volunteers who circulated papers, and thank you to all who signed.”
The Primary Election is August 9th and the General Election is November 8th. For more information, go to

The seat opened up with current State Representative Mark Spreitzer, who is running to fill Janis Ringhand’s 15th State Senate District seat, as she is retiring at the end of her current term.
Inspired by his five years of service on the Beloit City Council, Anderson is running to empower local communities to make necessary changes and progress. His issues include increasing education funding, fighting for environmental stewardship, and ensuring that rural communities have access to high quality utilities like water and broadband.
Ringhand endorses Spreitzer, who qualifies for November ballot
On May 19, Ringhand announced that she is endorsing Spreitzer to succeed her in the Wisconsin State Senate.
“Leaving the State Senate is bittersweet, but I know that my constituents will be in good hands with Mark as their new State Senator. Since Mark was first elected to public office in 2011, he has demonstrated the qualities that we need in our next State Senator: he cares about the people of our district, he fights for them in Madison, he listens and helps constituents with their problems, and he never loses his drive to do what is right,” said Ringhand. “Mark’s service in the Assembly has prepared him well, and I am excited to endorse him for the State Senate.”
Ringhand is the Assistant Democratic Leader in the State Senate and is retiring from the 15th State Senate District after two terms. Prior to serving in the State Senate, Ringhand served two terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly and served in local office on the Evansville City Council and as Mayor of Evansville.
“It is an honor to have Janis’s endorsement for the State Senate,” said Spreitzer. “Janis has been a dear friend and a mentor to me as we have served together in the State Legislature, and I cannot thank her enough for her support for the State Senate.”
Spreitzer has previously been endorsed by State Reps. Sue Conley, Don Vruwink, and Gary Hebl, as well as former State Senator Judy Robson and former State Rep. Deb Kolste. In addition to receiving these endorsements, Spreitzer qualified to appear on the ballot in November. The Wisconsin Elections Commission approved him to appear on the ballot with 636 nomination signatures from voters in the 15th District, well above the required 400.
“Since launching this campaign in March, our team has grown along with our district,” Spreitzer added. “From Stoughton, Oregon, and Edgerton in the new 43rd, to Janesville in the 44th, and to Evansville, Brodhead, and Beloit in the 45th — we have worked hard to get the signatures needed for ballot access. I want to thank the over 120 volunteers across the 15th District who helped make this happen. I am humbled by the support and generosity that has been shown to our campaign, and I look forward to working together through the November election and beyond.”
Spreitzer was first elected to the State Assembly in 2014 after serving on the Beloit City Council. He served in Assembly leadership as the Democratic Caucus Chair from November 2016 to March 2022. Spreitzer has been a legislative leader on issues such as conservation, local government, family farms, middle-class economic security, healthcare access, criminal justice reform, LGBTQ equality, and defending democracy. The 15th State Senate district includes parts of Dane, Green and Rock counties, including the communities of Janesville, Beloit, Stoughton, Oregon, Edgerton, Evansville, Brodhead, Orfordville, Brooklyn, Albany, Monticello, and Footville.
