MONROE - Two Brooklyn men were charged for growing marijuana in a Brooklyn residence after police were called to investigate a domestic disturbance.
Marty J. Packard, 53, was charged Oct. 20 with two Class H felony counts of manufacturing and possessing with intent to distribute marijuana, a Class I felony count of maintaining a drug trafficking place and misdemeanor counts of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Michael J. Mason, 52, was charged Monday with identical charges, along with an additional misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.
The duo's charges stemmed from an incident Oct. 17, when a domestic disturbance was reported at a Brooklyn residence. According to a police report, Mason had been visiting the residence when he became angry and belligerent before leaving, threatening to return with a firearm.
The victims called the police, who arrived at Mason's residence in the 200 block of Bowman Street, Town of Brooklyn. Although Mason could not be found there, a protective sweep of the premises found several marijuana plants.
After executing a search warrant at the residence, investigators found seven juvenile marijuana plants, 10 additional growing plants and two adult plants, as well as 257.4 grams of processed marijuana. In addition, investigators found several items of paraphernalia for growing and packaging marijuana.
Packard, who lived with Mason at the residence, was found and arrested during the search. Mason, meanwhile, claimed he was driving to California for business purposes but promised to turn himself in upon his return to Wisconsin.
The maximum possible sentences for Packard is 7.5 years in prison, with a possible addition of 1.5 years to Mason's sentence for his disorderly conduct charge. Mason's initial appearance is scheduled for Oct. 31, while Packard's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 20.
