MONROE - Family Promise of Green County is selling raffle tickets to raise funds and will be awarding a ticket buyer as much as $10,000.
Every tenth "10 Grand in Your Hand" raffle ticket drawn will win a prize of at least $100. The last ticket will win the coveted $10,000. The raffle also offers a special twist to help increase the chances at a slice of the main prize: The last four, three or two contestants could unanimously decide to split the $10,000.
Tickets cost $100 each, and the number sold is limited to 250. The cost of the ticket includes food and drinks for two at the raffle event at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Family Promise is a nonprofit group that helps homeless families and guides them on a path towards independence. The group works closely with religious organizations across the county to help anyone without a home or the near-homeless.
Board president Angie Parr said the raffle will go towards Family Promise's yearly expenses. This is the first year the group has hosted a raffle and it appears to be working out well - as of late this week, there were only 20 tickets left.
"Considering how it's our first year (doing the raffle), I was a little nervous," Parr said. "The community has been so supportive."
The raffle event will be held at the Monroe Den, 1506 31st Ave., Monroe. Dinner will include: pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans and dessert. For those who don't want to purchase a raffle ticket, $20 at the door will get you in for dinner and the silent auction.
Parr said the group will be auctioning off a two-night, three-day stay at a cabin in Door County, a Brewers vs. Cubs game in Milwaukee with a $200 hotel gift card and an autographed Green Bay Packers football.
Raffle tickets can be purchased from any board member or by calling the Family Promise Day Center at 608-328-2600.
Ticket holders need not be present to win.
