Located just north of the Village of New Glarus, the Schuetzen Haus (Shooting Barn) has been a popular gathering place ever since it was built in 1907 to host sharpshooting competitions.

Pictured displaying the targets they’ve hit are, from left, John Theiler, S.A. Schindler, Jake Legler, unidentified, unidentified, Albert Schlatter and Dr. Henry Hoesly (dentist). Owned and operated by the Wilhelm Tell Guild, the Schuetzen Haus will be the location for New Glarus’ Mannerchor and Yodel Club’s annual Volksfest on Sunday, Aug. 4.

This photo and many more can be found in the New Glarus and Green County collection at the Wisconsin Digital Collection (https://uwdc.library.wisc.edu/collections/wi/newglarus). The New Glarus Historical Society, Inc. was founded in 1938 to not only preserve the unique history of New Glarus but to share it through the Swiss Historical Village & Museum that it owns and operates.
