MONROE - Green County native Cherie Norquay will present a concert of contemporary Christian and gospel music at 7 p.m. Saturday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1724 14th St., Monroe.
The concert will be held in the church sanctuary. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for age 12 and under and are available at the church office by calling 608-325-2165 or at the door the night of the concert.
A reception for Norquay will be held in Fellowship Hall after the concert.
Norquay, who grew up in the Juda area, spent her life wondering if there wasn't something more to being a Christian than attending church and participating in good Christian programs. It was during a mission trip to Uganda that she began writing music. During a second trip with members of her family, she shared her music, teaching women in the bush of Africa to make handcrafted soap and continuing relations with the "Women with Purpose" co-operative. The family expects to continue teaching self-sustainability and entrepreneurial skills in Africa in the near future.
Proceeds from the concert will go to the church's building fund.
