MONROE- Named one of Time Magazines best plays of 2001, "The Drawer Boy" is a heart-warming story full of humor that explores the true meaning of friendship.

Presented by Monroe Theatre Guild and directed by David Bristow, this funny and sensitive slice of life begins with the arrival of Miles (Matt Finkenbinder), a young actor who is gathering research for an upcoming life-on-the-land theater project.

Two aging bachelors, Angus (Chris Weis) - a simple shell-shocked WWII veteran, and Morgan (Gary Johnson) - his best friend, have their routine lives disrupted when they agree to let Miles stay on their farm and learn the "ways of the land."

Morgan runs the farm operation and carefully watches over his buddy Angus, the "drawer boy" of the story who has a love of drawing and design.

Because of a head injury accident during the war, Angus has lost his memory and is given to headaches and emotional outbursts. Unwittingly, Miles stumbles upon the key to painful memories locked in Angus' mind that ultimately unlocks the hearts of them all. What begins as an amusing portrayal of rural and urban culture-clash slowly peels away layers of forgotten truths and lies, exposing hidden secrets of love and tragedy.

The Drawer Boy opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 18 at the Monroe Arts Center Gunderson Stiles Concert Hall. Additional performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on April 19, 24, 25, and 26 and at 2 p.m. April 20 and 27. General admission tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under, and may be purchased through the Monroe Arts Center box office located at 1315 11th Street or by calling (608) 325-5700.
