Juda FFA members attend national convention

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Several members of the Juda FFA Chapter attended the 85th National FFA Convention from Oct. 23 through the 27.

Members attending were Kelsey Cramer, Jessica Crull, Danielle Dieckhoff, Joel Dieckhoff, Carmen Hale, Jessica Jordan, Brianna Knudtson and McKayla Trotter. The group was chaperoned by Ralph Johnson, Juda FFA advisor; Alicia Gordee, student teacher; and Greg Lincicum, Juda FFA Alumni member and member of the Wisconsin FFA Alumni board.

While in the Indianapolis area, they toured English's Buffalo Farm and the Exotic Feline Rescue Center, as well as the Indianapolis Zoo. The group also attended several of the convention sessions held in the Bankers Life Field house where they heard speakers such as Scott Hamilton, 1984 Olympic gold medalist in men's figure skating; Lowell Catlett, dean of agriculture at New Mexico State University; and Josh Bleill, veteran of the Iraq war, who's Humvee exploded from a roadside bomb.

Members also attended the Career Show and leadership workshops. They attended the Band Perry and Brantley Gilbert Concert on Wednesday night. On Friday afternoon the group was 10 of 10,000 members and advisors who worked to package one million meals for "The Rally To Fight Hunger" activity. Five hundred thousand of the meals will go to people in Haiti and the rest will stay in the Central Indiana area.

On Saturday, four of the group's graduate members received the highest degree that an FFA member can earn - The American FFA Degree. Receiving the degree were Kevin Becker, Bryan Cramer, Emily Seeling and Dylan Severson. These members were awarded their degree inside the Lucas Oil Stadium. The total attendance for the 2012 National FFA Convention was 56,167 FFA members, advisors and guests. Next year, the Convention will move to Louisville, Ky.
