MONROE - The Green County Harmony Chorus will present the 50th annual Spring Show, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 2, at the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center. Emcee for the evening is Roy Berrey. The chorus is directed by Cindy Blanc.
Tickets are available from any chorus member and at Ruf's on the Square. Admission to the show is $10, and tickets for the afterglow in the MHS M-Room are $6. Afterglow tickets include food, beverages and additional performances by the GCHC and two of its three guest quartets.
The guest quartets are: Premiere from the Milwaukee area; One Button Short from the Appleton area; and local favorites Circle of Friends, Monroe. Premiere, an all-female barbershop quartet, has more than 50 years of barbershop experience and twelve gold medals among them and is the current Region 22 silver medalist.
Formed in 2008, the quartet has a unique and entertaining a cappella style, and they scored a personal best at their first international quartet competition. Tenor Colleen Matt, lead Nancy Charles, baritone Brenda Krueger and bass Brenda Follensbee hail from the metro Milwaukee area. One Button Short is, a barbershop chorus based in Appleton, has been together for 8 years, performing in the Green Bay, Milwaukee and Madison areas. They frequently sing the National Anthem for events and recently had a very successful singing Valentine's day. Members of One Button Short are baritone Scott Finley, tenor Ken Bester, bass Bob Starner and lead Kelly Aschebrook.
Monroe based, Circle of Friends is comprised of soprano Deborah Krauss Smith, mezzo Pam Wyss, alto Deb Krattiger and pianist Brenda Payne. The group is part of the music ministry of St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe, and specializes in gospel-style music. The group has been together since 1997 and recorded its first CD in 2010. Circle of Friends will include several very recognizable tunes on their portion of the program, including Gershwin's "Someone to Watch Over Me."
GCHC was formed in 1962. Its repertoire consists of barbershop arrangements of standards, gospel, sacred, pop and novelty tunes. Members are from: Blanchardville, Brodhead, Browntown, Juda and Monroe, WI; and Freeport, Lena, Pearl City, Shannon and Stockton, Ill.
They have been with the local barbershop chorus for varying lengths of time, but some have been harmonizing together since the group's inception.
Assistant director Gary Partridge of Monroe leads the chorus at many community events and has been singing with them for 35 years.
