MONROE — The Green County Family YMCA is excited to introduce Studio Y, a new program designed specifically for middle school students, offering a welcoming space to connect with peers, explore new interests, learn from community members and make the most of their Friday afternoons.

Studio Y is a flexible, teen-centered program that combines creativity, conversation, games, food and real-world experiences in an environment where young people can feel comfortable, build relationships and have fun. The program gives middle school students a place to call their own while encouraging them to explore new ideas, discover interests and connect with their community.

Meeting most Fridays from 2-3:30 p.m., Studio Y will feature a variety of activities, including snacks that participants help prepare, guest speakers from the local business and arts communities, games, homework support and plenty of time to hang out with friends. Guest speakers will share experiences and insights on topics relevant to teens, providing opportunities for participants to learn about different careers, creative pursuits and possibilities for the future.

What makes Studio Y unique is its emphasis on youth voice. Participants will have opportunities to help shape the program, share their interests and influence what happens next, making Studio Y a space that grows and evolves alongside the students it serves.

“Studio Y is about giving middle school students a place where they can be themselves, try new things, build connections and have a say in what they do,” said Amanda Sturdevant, Director of Child Development at the Green County Family YMCA. “We want to create an environment where teens feel welcome, discover new interests and develop meaningful connections with people in their community.”

Try Studio Y with a Sneak Peek Session

The YMCA will offer four sneak-peek sessions on Oct. 23, Nov. 6, Nov. 13 and Nov. 20, giving students and families an opportunity to experience the program before committing to a full trimester. These sessions are open to any middle school student, with a cost of $10 per session.

For students ready to make Studio Y part of their routine, full registration is available by trimester for the second and third trimesters of the school year. The cost is $110 per trimester, and space is limited to just 20 participants. Families are encouraged to register early, as spots are expected to fill quickly.
