MONROE — The Green County Family YMCA is just $2 million dollars away from reaching their $25 million goal and they are “banking” on success. Three local banks, including Woodford State Bank, the Bank of New Glarus, and Wisconsin Bank & Trust have pledged a combined $250,000 toward the project. Ground breaking on the YMCA’s expansion could begin as early as July 1, but is dependent upon first reaching the $25 million project goal.

“Woodford State Bank is proud to support the YMCA of Green County. Since its opening in 1985, the Y has provided so many opportunities to the Green County and Lafayette County area, ranging from youth sports, to child care and preschool, to adult health and fitness,” said Scott DeNure, President and CEO of Woodford State Bank. “This new expansion is an opportunity to make a ‘once in a generation’ difference to the people in our region.”

Local residents are encouraged to consider donating to ensure the project proceeds as soon as possible.

“We have seen tremendous support and generosity from a number of our local businesses. Large dollar donations are always exciting but we need smaller donations too,” said Trent Henning, Executive Director of the Green County Family YMCA. “Even a $50 or $500 donation goes a long way in demonstrating the support of local community members. With a project of this magnitude, we need the entire community to rally together in support of the project.”

“For generations the Green County Family YMCA has been a pillar for our communities,” said Ron Schaaf, President & CEO of The Bank of New Glarus. “We’re honored to support the expansion of the YMCA through a donation to support childcare and early childhood education. The Bank of New Glarus is making this donation in honor of our employees and customers, and we’re pleased to impact families across Green County through our support of this project,” Schaaf added.

The YMCA’s enhanced facility will include a combination of renovated and newly constructed spaces with the addition of 50,000 square feet. New spaces will include Childcare and Youth Development Centers, Healthy Living Center, Gymnastics Center, community kitchen, fitness studios, spaces for adults, youth and more. Donations toward the project can be made as a one-time gift or as a 3-5-year pledge.

“Wisconsin Bank & Trust is proud to invest in our community and there is no better place than expanding our YMCA here in Monroe,” said Ron Markham, Market President of Wisconsin Bank & Trust. “They enrich the lives of countless individuals across the area and contribute to a stronger, more cohesive community for all.”

To further emphasize the importance of local community support, the Green County Family YMCA has set a goal of raising $500,000 in the month of June from local residents.

“We’re calling it our ‘Half Million Hurdle,’” said Henning. “Getting over this near final hurdle will have a significant impact on our ability to finish the ‘Drive for Five’ challenge originally set by the Colony Brands Foundation.”
