Monticello FFA Reporter 2021-22
Some FFA events that Monticello FFA members participated in over the past year included: attending State FFA Convention, qualifying for the National Land and Range Judging Contest by competing in the WI State FFA Soils Judging Contest, conducting the Monticello Homecoming Summer Fish Boil and Hosting the District 13 Leadership Development Event.
State FFA Convention participants pictured attended the WI State FFA Convention on July 6-7th. Members pictured were those that participated in events on July 7th. Carter Wirth, Braylon Hoesly, Hannah Clark, Mackenzie Errthum, Sarah Brokopp, and Logan Bauman received their WI State FFA Degrees at the Alliant Energy Center. These students were also there to support and congratulate long-time Monticello FFA Advisor, Mr. Bob Voss, with his recent induction into the Wisconsin FFA Hall of Fame.
Several FFA members competed in area and state soils judging contests which led to four members qualifying for the National Land and Range Judging Contest in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma during the week of May 2nd. Those members competed at Southwest Technical College on September 15th and earned a 2nd place state ranking. Team members travelling to Oklahoma are Sarah Brokopp, Carter Wirth, Ian Schwartzlow and Nick Roe.
Monticello FFA members work closely with the Monticello FFA Alumni at the annual summer Homecoming Friday Night Fish Boil on Friday July 9th, 2021, serving over 600 meals. This serves as an excellent joint-venture community project that earns money for both organizations. This is a popular event that draws in many attendees from other communities as well.
Monticello FFA members organized and hosted the District 13 Leadership Development Event at Monticello High School, on Wednesday January 19th, 2022 that consisted of six contests. Contest areas include: Employment Skills, Creed Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Discussion Meet, Quiz Bowl, and Parliamentary Procedure. Schools that participated include: Belleville, New Glarus, Monticello, Monroe, Albany, Juda, Evansville and Parkview. Not only did Monticello FFA members coordinate the events and arranged for over 20 different community members to serve as judges, but they also had several members qualify for the sectional contest. Qualifying members are the 1st place Quiz Bowl team consisting of Julia Cash, Ella Salas, and Molly Olson; and Angela Cash with a 1st place finish in the Discussion Meet Contest.
