Scout to discuss project at program
JUDA - Juda's Memorial Day program will start at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Juda.
The program will begin with the Juda Fire and Rescue Department raising the flag on the central pole, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, led by the Juda Boy Scouts. The Juda School band and chorus will provide musical selections during the service. The Rev. Thomas Miller will give the main address, which will be followed by the roll of honor, naming deceased veterans from all wars who were from the Juda area.
As a special feature this year, Joey Jordan will speak about his Eagle Scout project, which is to erect a memorial honoring all branches of the military. Also, Kay Carter will present a tribute to the memory of the young men from the community who served in the Spanish-American War.
The program will close with a salute by the VFW Drill Team and Taps being sounded, with the benediction by Miller.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Juda School.

Event to recognize Civil War veterans
NEW GLARUS - The Green's Prairie Cemetery Association invites the public to Green's Prairie Cemetery at 1 p.m. May 30, to recognize the seven Union Civil War veterans who are buried in the flora of the era in which they lived, farmed and raised their families.
Green's Prairie Cemetery is located on Postville Road between County Highways A and H, just north of Postville.
Meet Joel Walker, Rosel Crowel, George Thomas, William Sherman, John Wescott, John Stewart and Amos Conkey to learn a bit about their service on our behalf.
The following Civil War veterans are buried elsewhere but their widows were entombed in Green's; Salmon Smith, Sampson Sherman, Nelson Peebles, Joseph Hilton, Peter Benson, Rollin Hurlburt and D.C. Day.

Farmers Market to return on May 28
LENA - The Lena Farmers Market will return for its fourth season and be open from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, May 28, at the downtown Lena parking lot.
The market will run every Saturday, rain or shine, until October 29.
The farmers at the market offers wide array of fresh locally grown produce. Some of the early season produce at the market will include rhubarb, radish, spinach, green onions and many types of lettuce.
Last year, the market had more than 40 different types of fruits and vegetables.
