To the editor:

Once again, the Christmas Stocking Project, which started almost 70 years ago, continues to impact many Monroe families in need during the holidays.

With the assistance of generous community volunteers, Christmas Stocking helps children receive clothes, boots, shoes, coats and toys that they might not have otherwise received. This year over 530 food boxes were distributed to families so that they could enjoy a holiday meal. About 270 shut-ins and seniors enjoyed cheer boxes so that they are reminded that they are not alone during the holidays.

It takes many hours and hundreds of volunteers to help out the over 850 children who are recipients of the Christmas Stocking Project. Shoppers, cookie bakers, toy drive donators, food packers and deliverers and the monetary donations are all part of how the Christmas Stocking works. None of this would be possible without the support of this generous community.

We want to sincerely express our heart-felt appreciation to all who volunteered their time and gave monetary donations to this worthy cause. It is wonderful to have so many thoughtful and giving individuals, businesses, churches, organizations and school groups who want to “give back” to this annual project. We are truly blessed here in Monroe.
