MONROE - The Monroe boys tennis team dismantled Fort Atkinson, 7-0, Tuesday to set up a match of unbeatens Friday against Madison Edgewood.
Monroe (11-0, 5-0 Badger South) was only challenged in two matches, No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.
In the No. 1 singles match, Finnish exchange student Lauri Juonela defeated Fort Atkinson's Tim Hartwick 6-1, 6-4.
"The match was closer than the score shows," Monroe coach Jim Bartholf said.
Artem Beer and Jim Kundert won a close match in the No. 1 doubles, winning 6-3, 6-4.
Carson Root won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Matt Le won his No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-2, and Eric Knudtson finished the singles sweep with a 6-2, 6-1, win in the fourth match.
Pat Gellings and Garrett Tschanz won their match in 12 games at No. 2 doubles and Mark Hoesly and Dan Becker won 6-1, 6-0, in No. 3 doubles.
Edgewood and Monroe are tied atop the conference with 5-0 dual match records. Friday's match is for the conference regular season title.
Monroe's junior-varsity team won 11-1.
