WIOTA - After Sunday's Home Talent League playoff game between the Wiota Indians and Monroe Brewers in Monroe was suspended due to lightning, the two teams picked up where they left off in Wiota.
The Indians led 3-0 in the fourth inning with one out when the game was postponed. When play resumed, the Indians held the lead and won 4-2.
Brock Bidlingmaier picked up the win on the mound, pitching all nine innings over the course of the two days, striking out five and allowing five hits.
Justin Hahn took the loss on the mound for Monroe, pitching the first 4 1/3 innings on Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits. Cody Boals, who missed Sunday's portion of the game, pitched Tuesday night and allowed four hits and a run in the ninth inning. He struck out three in 5 2/3 innings.
"Our offensive problems hurt us again," Monroe player-manager Lon Scheuerell said. "Cody pitched well, but we couldn't make up the deficit. Wiota is a good team, and they can beat you when you're not playing your best."
Monroe (16-11 overall, 11-6 Sunday League) scored both of its runs in the sixth inning.
"To go 16-11 on the season is pretty good. Hopefully next year we can get a few more former Cheesemakers and other players to come out and play," Scheuerell said.
Wiota now advances to the second round of the playoffs. The Indians will travel to Verona on Sunday.
