Wellnitz earns top honor

MONROE - The accolades keep rolling in for Black Hawk junior Jen Wellnitz.

Wellnitz was named the Six Rivers East Conference Player of the Year recently. Wellnitz, who was named first team all-conference averaged 20.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, helped lead the Warriors to the WIAA Division 5 regional championship where they lost to Barneveld 55-38. She also eclipsed 1,000 career points in a 40-37 win over Monticello on March 1.

Monticello (17-7, 9-3 Six Rivers East), which finished second in the conference had two players named first team all-conference, including junior Marissa Berg and sophomore Alyssah Kubly. Monticello coach Lori Brokopp was named the conference coach of the year. The two first team all-conference players for Pecatonica included seniors Lizzy Britt and Michelle Francois.

The other first team all-conference selections included Juda senior Jessica Rackow and Argyle junior Jessica Treuthardt.

Monticello had two players named honorable mention all-conference including sophomore Courtney Leuzinger and senior Amy Silver. Argyle seniors Kayla Ostby and Kim Pink also were honored as honorable mention. The other honorable mention selections include Albany senior Carlie Peters, Albany senior Cassidy Bump, Black Hawk junior Michelle Flanagan and Pecatonica senior Maddie Fischer.
