MONROE- Like a pesky bumble bee buzzing around a picnic table, there was no way the Monroe golf team could escape a major nuisance.

In a rare double Badger South dual, the Cheesemakers defeated Oregon, 156-160, and tied Verona Friday at the Monroe Country Club. The Wildcats earned a win by virtue of a fifth score tiebreaker. Cameron Bathe's 42 was the deciding factor for Verona as he just edged Monroe senior Alex Holmes (44) by two strokes.

"Obviously, you never want to get a tie when you are so close," Monroe coach Jeriamy Jackson said.

Monroe (2-4 Badger South) had lost to Stoughton earlier this year by one stroke and now boasts a heart-breaking tiebreaker to the Wildcats.

"We are one stroke from being 4-2," Jackson said. "That hurts."

Jackson relished an opportunity for a double dual after rainouts.

"It's more competition," he said. "You are not playing with your own team. It's more like a tournament atmosphere."

Monroe junior Brandon Wilson shot a 2-under 32. Wilson birdied four holes including Nos. 1, 3, 5 and 7.

"I pretty much wanted to keep making pars and birdies and eliminate the bogeys," Wilson said.

The only challenge for Wilson was No. 9 where he took a double bogey after he went into the trees and three putted.

"No. 9 is always my challenging hole," Wilson said. "You just never know what to hit off the tee."

Jackson was impressed with Wilson's focus.

"It's definitely the best golf he has played this year," Jackson said. "You have pressure when you are under par."

Wilson played a lot of junior golf tournaments last summer.

"I think that is really important to take that step and play in that high level competition," Jackson said. "That is what he did last summer and it's starting to pay off."

Monroe junior Aaron Krattiger shot a 40 and Gary Petit and Mitch McArdle both carded a 42.

Jackson said the goal is to be playing strong at the Badger Conference and regional tournaments.

"If we do well in the regional that will take the sting away."

Monroe wakes up early this morning for their annual best ball invitational.
